Volunteer Base Meetings
Saturday December 13th we had our base meeting and Christmas party. What a fun time! We had about 30 in attendance with several wives and family members. We had Ham and Turkey and more side dishes than we could possibly eat. Also, dirty Santa, made his rounds as well as the package swapping took place.

We also had two new members join this month.
Gayle Carlaw as an Associate member and wife of Keith Carlaw. As a reminder, spouses and next of kin to shipmates in our submarine force can join the USSVI as an associate member!
Dennis Guillette. Dennis served on the USS Barb SSN-596 and the USS Greenling SSN-614.
We welcome both Dennis and Gayle as members.
We had a good meeting today at the USSVI base. We had 14 in attendance. No speaker, but we did
have discussions about the upcoming Veterans Day parades for Nolensville and Nashville. More information will be emailed about these events in the upcoming weeks. After the meeting several went to eat at Monells out by the airport.
The historic USS Clamagore, a submarine on display in Charleston, may get a new life in Knoxville, Tennessee. That was the subject for discussion today at the Nashville chapter (Volunteer Base) of US Submarine Veterans. Learn more at https://www.facebook.com/friendsoftheclamagore .. and LIKE their Facebook page. Thanks to Marlin Helms, commander of the Smoky Mtn Sub Vets chapter for coming over to give a brief.
Here's a scanned copy of the Friends of the Clamagore's tri-fold Save 343! handout from yesterday's Base meeting.
Tommy Tomlinson discusses Veterans Benefits.
At today's meeting we had a guest speaker, Tommy” Tomlinson from the Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs. He works at the VA Hospital in Nashville. He discussed veteran's benefits, including navigating the healthcare system, as well as other benefits of interest to older veterans. This was one of the best speakers to date.
2014 Volunteer Base Picnic was a total success. A big thank you to everyone who made it possible.
There were approximately 35 - 40 people who came out for the picnic at the Cheatham Dam and Lock picnic area outside of Ashland City.
There was some great food and deserts!
If you were no able to make it, hopefully you will be able to next time.
Here are some other pictures I took during the day.
I believe you can print pictures at the following locations right from the website or you can download the pictures, save them and print them at any location:
Bob “Bulldog” Ousley MAJ USA (RET) was our guest speaker today at our United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. (USSVI) Volunteer Base monthly meeting at the Andrew Jackson VFW Post.
Bulldog gave us a great presentation on Operation Stand Dow...n, Nashville, running down the many services OSDN provides our local veterans. We are now on the OSDN mailing list so that we can pass on volunteer/donation opportunities to our Volunteer Base members. Living in Clarksville I was pleased to hear that OSDN may open a branch office in the Clarksville area which would make it easier for our northern base members, like myself, to volunteer our time and efforts.
A big BZ goes out to Bulldog on his presentation and a bigger BZ goes out to OSDN to being there and supporting our fellow veterans!!!
