Keith and I sent 8 care packages over seas at Christmas to our deployed military troops. Most of these contained candy and decorations, however one box contained all toiletries items. We were also blessed to send over 150 Christmas cards from our local schools. The teachers made it a special project for the students and the result was awesome! Also, a big THANK YOU to Bernie McCrum for the generous donation of sample shampoo’s, lotions, etc and toiletries for our female troops!
We have adopted two Navy units, both of which are currently deployed in the Gulf of Oman, on the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier. I have attached pictures of replenishment items and care packages being delivered by helicopter to the deck. It amazes me to think over 7,000 sailors are standing on that deck, anxiously waiting for their name to be called. They are so appreciative of anything sent from “home”.
We also adopted two Army units. The NightStalker 160th unit from Ft. Campbell, adopted in memory of our son in law that passed away in 2009 while serving in this unit. And the Longhorns, from Maryland. We chose that unit because they are located in a remote area in Eastern Afghanistan and do not have a PX or other means of supply. Our son in law was deployed to this area as well, so we also chose them in his memory also.
We have chosen these troops for the length of their deployment and will continue to send packages until they all come home. If you would like to donate to this project, please check the list below for needed items. You may have some of these items in your home that you do not use, but they can. For example: sample size toiletries from your stay at
hotels, ink pens, writing materials, bandana’s, small stuff toys like Beanie Babies, etc. The toys are sent to our Army troops to be given to the village children. The NightStalkers help protect them from attack and hand these out to the frightened children.
The mailing rate for a USPS flat rate box is $15. Perhaps you would like to donate funds to cover the mailing or to buy food items. We accept that too!
You can bring any donated items to each months meeting or call me at
